When to consider an assessment
When pediatric physiotherapy may help
Children develop movement skills at different rates. A physiotherapy assessment may be useful when movement differences affect comfort, confidence or participation at home, nursery, school or play.
Difficulty standing or walking
Balance difficulties or frequent falls
Coordination challenges
Unusual or inefficient walking patterns
Childhood musculoskeletal pain or injury
An assessment does not assume that something is wrong. It helps clarify your child’s strengths, current needs and whether physiotherapy or another form of support may be appropriate.

Frequently asked questions
Pediatric physiotherapy FAQs
Answers are general. Our team can advise on practical booking questions, while clinical recommendations follow assessment.
What does a pediatric physiotherapist do?
A pediatric physiotherapist assesses and supports movement, physical development and participation in babies, children and young people. Care is tailored to the child’s age, needs and goals.
When should I consider an assessment for my child?
You may consider an assessment if you are concerned about movement milestones, walking, frequent falls, balance, coordination, weakness, asymmetry, pain or difficulty returning to normal activity. A professional can help determine whether physiotherapy is appropriate.
Can physiotherapy help with delayed walking?
Physiotherapy may help some children by assessing strength, balance, mobility and movement patterns, then providing individualised activities and guidance. The appropriate plan depends on the child and the reasons for the delay.
Can pediatric physiotherapy support balance and coordination?
Yes. A physiotherapist can assess balance and coordination and discuss whether support may be appropriate.
What happens at the first appointment?
The physiotherapist will usually speak with the parent or caregiver, review relevant history, observe the child’s movement and assess appropriate physical skills. Findings and next steps are then discussed with the family.
Do parents attend sessions?
Parent and caregiver involvement is an important part of Sarah’s family-centred approach. The most suitable level of involvement can be discussed according to the child’s age, comfort and treatment goals.
