Developmental Issues – Delayed Milestones

Developmental Issues – Delayed Milestones in Children

What are Delayed Milestones?

Milestones represent key stages in a child’s development, such as walking or talking, which are expected to occur at specific ages. When a child hasn’t reached a particular milestone at the predicted time, this is referred to as a delayed milestone.

Additionally, your physiotherapist will guide you through exercises and stretches to help you regain and maintain joint mobility, as well as enhance your balance and strength, so you can return to doing what you love.

Causes of Delayed Milestones

There are various factors that can lead to delayed milestones in children. These may include genetic conditions, complications during pregnancy or birth, premature birth, infections, or head injuries during early infancy or childhood. In some cases, no specific cause can be identified.

Symptoms of Delayed Milestones

While there are no distinct symptoms, certain signs in a child’s development may indicate delayed milestones. Children typically follow a general developmental timeline, and delays become apparent if they struggle to acquire or perform age-appropriate skills.

How Physiotherapy Can Help

Our specialized pediatric physiotherapists tailor treatment to each child’s needs, age, and abilities. Engaging activities and games are often used to promote normal development.
